The trek is rated moderate to challenging. It requires good physical fitness but no prior climbing experience. The highest point is Gokyo Ri (5,357m).

Will I get altitude sickness?

There’s always a risk above 3,000m. This itinerary includes acclimatization days to reduce risk. Drink water, go slowly, and inform your guide if symptoms appear.

What kind of accommodation is available?

Comfortable teahouses/lodges are available throughout the route with basic amenities. Private rooms may not be available at higher altitudes.

Gokyo Valley Trek

Day 01 :

Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,840m), trek to Phakding (2,610m)

Take an early morning flight to Lukla. Begin the trek with a gentle walk through pine forests and small villages to Phakding.

Day 02 :

Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m)

Cross several suspension bridges and enter Sagarmatha National Park. After a steep climb, reach the bustling Sherpa town of Namche.

Day 03 :

Acclimatization Day at Namche Bazaar

Rest and explore Namche. Optional hikes to Everest View Hotel or Khumjung village.

Day 04 :

Trek from Namche to Phortse (3,810m)

Leave the main EBC trail and take the peaceful route to Phortse via Mong La. Enjoy views of Ama Dablam and Thamserku.

Day 05 :

Trek from Phortse to Machhermo (4,470m)

Climb gradually through rhododendron forest and yak pastures to reach Machhermo.

Day 06 :

Trek from Machhermo to Gokyo (4,800m)

Ascend alongside the Dudh Koshi River and pass the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Gokyo Lakes before arriving at Gokyo village.

Day 07 :

Acclimatization Day – Hike to Gokyo Ri (5,357m)

Climb Gokyo Ri early morning or late afternoon for sunrise/sunset views. Marvel at a 360° view of Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu, and the lakes.

Day 08 :

Explore 4th & 5th Gokyo Lakes, Cho Oyu Base Camp (Optional)

Day hike to the 4th and 5th lakes. Optional trek towards Cho Oyu Base Camp for close-up glacier views. Return to Gokyo.

Day 09 :

Trek from Gokyo to Machhermo (4,470m)

Begin the return journey with a relaxed descent back to Machhermo.

Day 10 :

Trek from Machhermo to Namche Bazaar (3,440m)

Descend through alpine terrain and pass familiar villages, enjoying your final views of the mountains.

Day 11 :

Trek from Namche to Lukla (2,840m)

Retrace your steps along the Dudh Koshi River, crossing bridges and forest paths. Celebrate your final trekking night in Lukla.

Day 12 :

Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu

Take a scenic morning flight back to Kathmandu. Transfer to your hotel.
